Fairchild Announces Industry's First Single-Bit Ultra Low Power Logic Level Translator-Providing Low-Noise Buffered Interface and Small Packaging for Portables

South Portland, Maine-April 18, 2003-Fairchild Semiconductor International (NYSE: FCS) announces the industry's first single-bit, dual-voltage translator buffer-the ultra low power FXLP34. Useful in cell phones, PDAs, notebooks, digital cameras and other battery-powered portable devices, the FXLP34 translator allows designers to mix and match different voltage levels, thus providing a low-noise buffered interface between any 1.0-3.6V logic state, including 1.6V, 1.8V, 2.5V and 3.3V. Fairchild's new CMOS-based ultra low power consumption technology enables nanosecond speed propagation delays along with ultra low power consumption. With this introduction of another industry first solution, Fairchild continues to be a leading supplier of advanced logic technology.

The FXLP34 single-bit translator buffer utilizes two separate supply voltages (VCC and VCC1) to translate between logic voltages within a 0.9V-3.6V range. Translation propagation delays (tPD) vary according to supply voltage level-for example, VCC values of 3.0V-3.6V experience 4 ns propagation delays; while VCC values of 1.4V-1.6V typically provide 7 ns prop delays. The FXLP34 device is available in either leadless chip-scale packaging (MicroPak(tm)) or 5-lead SC70. Either form factor provides a flexible design solution that meets the needs of battery-powered portables with limited space for new-feature circuitry.

According to Ken Murphy, Fairchild Marketing Manager for Logic Products, "As the industry's first low-power single-bit translator, the FXLP34 provides a flexible design solution that meets both the miniaturization, reduced-power, and lower voltage requirements of next-generation portable and ultra-portable electronic devices."

Available part numbers include: FXLP34L6X (leadless chip-scale MicroPakTM; 5000-piece tape-and-reel format) and FXLP34P5X (SC70; 3000-piece tape-and-reel format).

The FXLP34 device complements Fairchild's portfolio of products that target portable applications including audio amplifiers, LEDs for backlighting, supervisory products such as temperature sensors and reset generator circuits, and DC/DC conversion products such as LDOs and MOSFETs.

Price: $0.20 each in quantities of 1,000,000

Availability: Now for FXLP34P5X (SC70 package); mid-April for FXLP34L6X (MicroPakTM package) in production quantities.

Delivery: From stock at product release.
