Local Tool to Increase Lab Accuracy Sold to MIT

Conroe, Texas - BioTX Automation, Inc. has sold its recently-released WellAware(TM) Error-free Pipetting Aid to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). WellAware was designed to save time over manual liquid handling, called pipetting in the lab, by up to 90% without the high cost associated with automated systems. The software-driven tool increases lab efficiency for cost-effective quality control and can be used accurately by less trained personnel.

"WellAware can save us thousands of dollars in man-hours and reprogramming costs. It makes manual liquid handling accurate and effortless, at an affordable price," said Dr. O'Neill, Special Projects Laboratory at MIT's Broad Institute.

WellAware guides the technician using lights and voice to identify correct source and target reservoirs and to eliminate human error. Typical applications include microplate transpositions, serial dilutions, microplate reformatting, cherry-picking and other custom operations. Individual steps are time-stamped and saved to provide traceability and for easy resumption if the process is interrupted. A scanner can be used to input data from bar coded labels.

"WellAware provides the answer to error and time reduction in labs where accuracy is critical, and where costs need to be controlled," said James Frost, president of BioTX and the product's inventor. "It is a perfect example of the BioTX commitment to providing software-driven solutions to common laboratory problems."

The system is turnkey and takes up a small footprint. The cost is less than $5,000 per unit, which represents a significant savings over automated liquid handling systems.
