Eaton Introduces Compact, Environmentally-Friendly Switchgear for Reliable Electrical Power

PITTSBURGH … Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton recently introduced a narrow switchgear design that provides reliable switching and fault protection of medium-voltage circuits for industrial, institutional and healthcare customers. The metal-enclosed load interrupter switchgear with a narrow design is engineered to reduce the footprint of electrical distribution systems in an environmentally-friendly and compact design.

“Building on more than 50 years of our load interrupter switch design, Eaton is helping customers to reduce the size of their electrical distribution equipment, while maintaining operator safety and power reliability,” said Javvad Qasimi, product manager at Eaton.

Eaton’s new metal-enclosed load interrupter switchgear with a narrow design is an 18-inch wide structure with front-accessible cable terminations that is engineered to minimize space requirements. Additionally, the design incorporates Eaton fuses for accurate, calibrated short-circuit detecting and interrupting capabilities to support power reliability.

The new Eaton metal-enclosed load interrupter switch uses industry-leading flicker blade and DE-ION™ arc chute technology, which is designed to prolong the life of the main blades by minimizing arcing between the main blades and the stationary contacts. The switchgear avoids the use of Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6) gas that contributes to the greenhouse effect and is associated with climate change.

Eaton’s metal-enclosed load interrupter switchgear with a narrow design is tested to meet the C37.20.3 standards of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) C37.20.3 as well as the standards of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and Canadian Standards Association (CSA). The metal-enclosed load interrupter switchgear with a narrow design is seismically tested to meet International Building Code (IBC) 2006 and California Building Code (CBC) 2007 standards.
