Littelfuse to Introduce New Circuit Protection, Power Control and Sensing Technologies at the Electronica 2014 show in Munich, Germany

Presentations from Littelfuse experts on a new concept in Linear Positioning Sensing in PWG technology on November 11 and on surge protection for outdoor LED lighting on November 12

CHICAGO — Littelfuse, Inc., the global leader in circuit protection, will be showcasing cutting edge circuit protection technology, including a complete portfolio of semiconductor products at the leading industry trade show Electronica 2014 in Munich, Germany, from November 11 – 14 (Hall A6, Booth 250 and Hall B1, Booth 235). Littelfuse will be presenting new technologies, trends and vital components as well as current and future industry requirements in markets such as electrical energy, consumer electronics, automobiles, commercial vehicles and industrial equipment. The company is also rapidly expanding into adjacent markets, such as power control and sensing platforms, heavy-duty switches for commercial vehicles and electromechanical sensors used in the automotive industry.

Two Littelfuse presentations to be held at the Exhibitor Forum, Hall B5:

Dr. Brian Johnson, Global Engineering Director, Littelfuse, will be describing a new concept in Linear Position Sensing in PWG technology, November 11, 2 PM – 2:30 PM

Bharat Shenoy, Director of Technical Marketing, Littelfuse, will be talking about surge protection for outdoor LED lighting, November 12, 3 PM – 3:30 PM.

Speed2Design program: Protect. Control. Sense

Littelfuse is currently entering into the next phase of its Speed2Design program utilizing www.Speed2Design.com as a central resource for electronics engineers to consult for expertise and solutions related to circuit protection. Safe and successful circuit design needs to include circuit protection as a key ingredient. Littelfuse adopted the theme “Protect. Control. Sense” because of how vital circuit protection, power control and sensing products are to keeping the technologies people depend on operating safely and dependably.

Product highlights at Electronica

LSP Modules

At Electronica, Littelfuse will be presenting two product lines designed specifically to provide transient overvoltage protection for outdoor and commercial LED lighting fixtures. Constructed with Littelfuse thermally protected Varistors, the LSP05 and LSP10 Surge Protection Device (SPD) Modules provide robust surge current handling capability. A built-in thermal disconnect function provides additional protection from catastrophic failures and fire hazards, even under the extreme circumstances of Varistor end of life or sustained overvoltage conditions. Applications include outdoor and commercial LED lighting.

Thyristors

Littelfuse Q6008xH1LED and Q6012xH1LED Series Alternistor Triacs and Q6008LTH1LED and Q6012LTH1LED Series QUADRACs for LED Dimming offer robust solutions for power switching control of AC line-based LED dimmer applications. They are designed to work as the switching device in the dimmer circuit to vary the light output of new dimmable LED bulbs and strings. They are well suited to the needs of LED lighting dimmer designers who want to combine the widest range of operating parameters with high reliability and without degrading the dimmer’s performance. The market-leading low load current capability of these devices allows creating a single dimmer design that can handle all dimmable lighting loads: LED, CFL, and traditional incandescent.

Flange Mount Reed Sensors

Reed sensors are magnetically actuated proximity switches that are available in a variety of mounting options. The switching function is activated by introducing or removing a magnetic field. With the 2 part magnetically operated proximity sensor 59145 and 59150, flying leads can exit on either the left or right hand side of the housing. The case design allows for screw down or adhesive mounting. Furthermore, sensitivity can be defined to meet specific customer needs.

Key benefits include no standby power requirement, operation through non-ferrous materials such as wood, plastic or aluminum, hermetically sealed, magnetically operated contacts that continue to operate long after optical and other technologies fail due to contamination. The main applications for Flange Mount Reed Sensors include position and limit sensing, security system switches, linear actuators, and door switches.
