Liquid Tight Fittings

A primer for keeping your wires safe

Keeping wires protected from environmental hazards is very important for the longevity of your wiring. Protecting your wiring is important and very easy if you take the right precautions and use liquid tight protection. Along with liquid tight conduit, you can use liquid tight fittings to help protect your wires from the dangers of the environment. These fittings connect one conduit to another, or connect a conduit directly to an electrical box while helping protect the wires from any water that might try to leak in through your connector.

Another option when choosing fittings is to decide between an insulated fitting and a non-insulated fitting. Insulated fittings help protect wire coverings from getting ripped or torn when being pulled through the connector. This can be very useful with thin wires whose protective coverings are generally much thinner.

When choosing your fittings, you must also consider the angle of the connection. A standard fitting connects the conduit straight across to the other conduit and electrical box. Alternatively, a 45° or 90° connector creates an easier connection when necessary. These can be especially useful especially if you do not use flexible electrical conduit. Make sure the size of your liquid tight connector fits the electrical conduit size.
