Beckman Coulter Introduces Nanoliter Liquid Handing System

Fullerton, California, February, 2003 - Beckman Coulter, Inc. introduces the Nanomek™ Liquid Transfer Module. With the ability to pipette volumes from 50 nanoliters to 20 microliters, the Nanomek extends Beckman Coulter's liquid handling solutions to enable the miniaturization of assays in genomics, proteomics and high-throughput screening applications. The Nanomek module is integrated directly on the Biomek® FX workstation, for automated nanoliter dispensing in 96-, 384- and 1536-well plate formats. The new module interfaces with and takes advantage of the Biomek FX software, with an intuitive, graphical interface for easy method development. The Nanomek Liquid Transfer Module incorporates Allegro Technologies' spot-on* liquid handling technology, recognized for its dispensation control, precision, accuracy and reliability. Allegro's spot-on nanoliter capabilities increase throughput and reduce reagent consumption. A second generation bench-top Nanomek will be available later this year. "The Nanomek adds functionality to the Biomek FX platform," explains Sandra Lelias, Strategic Product Manager for Beckman Coulter. "Users can evaluate miniaturization assays on a familiar platform, and can easily change plate formats to meet the variety of assay demands in drug discovery and development." Beckman Coulter, Inc. is a leading manufacturer of instrument systems, chemistries and supplies that simplify and automate laboratory processes.
