Adept Technology Announces New Linear Track Kits For Robots

Configurable Kits Expand Robot Work Envelopes for Packaging, Assembly and Machine Tending Applications

San Jose, California - September 9, 2002 - Adept Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADTK), a leading manufacturer of flexible automation for the electronics, fiber optic, telecommunications, life sciences and semiconductor industries, today announced the introduction of a new family of linear track robot kits. The configurable kits, which the company will showcase at the Assembly Technology Expo in Chicago September 24-26th, 2002, expand robot work envelopes for a variety of applications in industries such as automotive, electronics, life sciences and semiconductor. The kits consist of a linear track, mounting bracket and cable track that are integrated with Adept's tabletop SCARA and 6-axis robots with Adept's SmartController(TM) and SmartServo(TM) control architecture.

"Customers are asking for more flexibility from their automation systems, and these new linear track kits allow a single robot to service two or more assembly or material handling stations," said Joe Campbell, vice president of marketing for Adept Technology. "And because the kits are based on our SmartServo distributed motion network and Adept SmartModules, they are easy to program and deploy, and are available in a range of sizes for all applications."

The linear track kits are based on Adept SmartModules and Adept SmartServo technology that integrate with Adept Cobra 600 & 800 and AdeptSix 300 robots and are equipped with the Adept SmartController featuring the high-speed Adept IEEE 1394-based SmartServo communication interface kit. The customer selects the track technology and robot best suited for their application based on how many axis of motion are required. Standard track lengths range from one to three meters and are configurable. Cleanroom compatible track kits are also available.

Adept Technology designs, manufactures and markets factory automation components and systems for the fiber optic, telecommunications, semiconductor, automotive, food and durable goods industries throughout the world.
