New 10 Gbps Linear Receiver Module from VSK Photonics



April 10, 2003 - Lake Forest, CA - VSK Photonics, Inc., a premier supplier of photonic components for the fiber optic telecommunications market, is now shipping a new, high-performance 10 Gbps Linear Receiver Module, the VSK10R05. This next generation 10 Gbps receiver module is targeted at applications using Electronic Dispersion Compensation (EDC) and performs extremely well in the presence of low OSNR (optical signal-to-noise-ratio).

The VSK10R05 10 Gbps receiver combines a proprietary photodetector design with an integrated pre-amplifier for excellent performance at 9.9, 10.7 and 12.5 Gbps. Providing an optical sensitivity of -19 dBm, an optical overload of +2 dBm, and bandwidth of 10 GHz, the high performance receiver also features an MSA-compliant 17-pin surface mount small form factor package. The small footprint, combined with a power consumption of less than 250 mW, makes it ideal for both transponder applications and line card designs incorporating multiple ports. In noisy optical environments, the optical overload remains greater than 0 dBm at an OSNR of 13dB/0.1nm, an industry best.

Like all VSK's high performance components for 10 Gbps and 40 Gbps, the key optoelectronic component in the VSK10R05 module is manufactured on-site in VSK's own Indium Phosphide (InP) wafer fabrication facility. Designed from customer requirements, the initial production ramp for this module took less than 10 weeks, including the design phase, fab, test and packaging.
