Original Press Release:

New 4020-6 Brushless Series Direct Drive Linear Motor

California Linear Devices Inc. of Carlsbad, CA, offers a new direct drive brushless DC motor, the higher force 4020-6. This model incorporates the key elements of the California Linear Devices tubular design which includes a single integral linear moving shaft. The simple rotor structure of alternating polarity neodymium-iron-boron magnets delivers exceptionally high force per volume. The 4020-6 model (6.2" OD by 6.9" long) develops a
peak force of 1125 pounds-force at a peak DC current of 30 amps and a peak power of 5.2 kilowatts.

CLD linear motor position and force are fully programmable through the use of third party servo drives. The built-in bearing system incorporates a simple self-contained structure
available in standard stroke lengths of 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 inches. A linear resolver, encoder and other position feedback devices provide detailed position and velocity data to the motion controller for precision motion control.

Applications include factory automation, packaging equipment, robots, material handling, machine tools, automated welding machines and others that require compact high force-density operation.
