Linear Motion System Runs Off Production Machine's Main Drive Motor - No Additional Motors, Sensors or Controllers Needed
Aston, PA, January, 2003 - Design engineers adding a linear motion system to production machines having a rotary drive motor, such as a conveyor, may use the Amacoil/Uhing linear motion assembly without having to include additional motors and controllers. The Amacoil assembly is linked to the main motor via a simple pulley system, and does not require a separate motor or controller to provide automatically reciprocating linear motion. Additionally, the main drive motor need not be reversible because the system automatically reverses through purely mechanical means - the drive motor continues to rotate at any desired speed in one direction, and does not need to be stopped or geared down to reverse the drive head.
Besides simplifying machine design, set-up and operation, the Amacoil assembly reduces operating costs for reciprocating motion procedures because multi-directional motors, sensors, and controllers are not required. Example applications for the Amacoil/Uhing assembly include applying glue/adhesives, conveying, winding material onto spools, spraying, cutting, coating, packaging and many converting and assembly operations. Because the system reverses without changing gear ratios or other controls, longer periods of uninterrupted production time are possible.

Once set, linear pitch (distance drive head travels per one shaft revolution) remains constant regardless of drive motor speed.
