Linear Measurement Device suits positioning applications.

Press Release Summary:

Built around multi-turn absolute magnetic encoder that uses Hall-effect sensor to measure angular displacements, POSITAL MDW features robust draw-wire mechanism to provides measurement range of up to 2 m at resolution of 35 µm. It has no internal electrical contacts, resulting in negligible loss of accuracy even after 1 million draw/rewind cycles. Measuring 46 x 46 x 70 mm, compact device comes with either analog or digital (CAN or serial SSI) instrument interfaces.

POSITAL MDW Linear Measurement Devices Offer Accuracy, Versatility and Long Service Life

Hamilton, New Jersey, FRABA has introduced POSITAL MDW, a high-performance linear measurement device that is ideal for many industrial and medical equipment positioning applications. It combines a high-precision magnetic rotary encoder with a robust draw-wire mechanism to provide a measurement range of up to 2 m at a resolution of 35 µm (1.3x10-3 inch).

The device is built around a multi-turn absolute magnetic encoder that uses a Hall-effect sensor to measure angular displacements. There are no internal electrical contacts, which means that there is none of the wear that often degrades the accuracy of devices based on multi-turn potentiometers. Tests conducted by the manufacturer have shown negligible loss of accuracy after over more than one million draw/rewind cycles.

The POSITAL MDW is easy to incorporate into designs. The unit is compact
(46 x 46 x 70 mm or 1.8 x 2.2 x 2.8 inches) and available with either analog or digital (CAN or serial SSI) instrument interfaces.

About POSITAL

FRABA Inc. is the North American sister company of POSITAL GmbH, a highly specialized manufacturer of absolute rotary encoders and inclinometers based in Cologne, Germany. The company belongs to the FRABA Group which dates back to 1918, when its predecessor, Franz Baumgartner elektrische Apparate GmbH, was established to manufacture relays. Today, the group consists of six independent companies that develop and produce advanced industrial sensor technology and safety equipment.
