New Seal On NSK Linear Guides Significantly Reduces Entry Of Fine Particles In Heavy Dust Applications
Bloomingdale, IL-NSK's new, patent pending, high-performance side seal on linear guides from NSK Precision America, significantly reduces the entry of fine contaminants such as graphite or ceramic powder and particulate matter such as rubber or wood particles into the ball slide. The result is longer life even in work environments with heavy dust conditions and higher grease retention.
Ideal for use where wood working machines, tire-buffing machines, welding lines and laser cutting machines, among others, are operated, the side seal features three lips and protrudes forward on the guide. This construction provides excellent dust exclusion and grease retention within the ball slide. NSK guides with the new side seal, unlike conventional linear guides, have no wire groove in the rail for guiding a ball-retaining wire. Accuracy and preload specifications on guides equipped with the new side seal are identical to standard models. (Dynamic friction force is slightly increased.)
Contamination and durability tests conducted on linear guides with the high-performance side seal show that contaminants are reduced to less than 1/10 of the level associated with standard single-side seals. The tests also showed that the seal doubles the service life of the ball slide by enhancing its dust-proofing performance and can increase the service life of the ball slide by more than five times.
Contamination tests were conducted using graphite powder while the durability tests were conducted using fine wood particles and rubber fragments. All tests compared the high-performance side seal with standard, single-side seals.
The new side seal is available for all LH25, LH30, LH35 and LH45 ball slide models for LH series linear guides and for stainless steel materials in the LH 25 or LH30 series. The NSK K1 lubrication unit that helps promote long term, maintenance-free operation is installed as a standard option for linear guides equipped with the high performance seal.
