Dana Holding Corporation Introduces New Linear Stopper(TM) Sealing Technology

HANNOVER, Germany - Following the success of Dana Holding Corporation's (NYSE: DAN) proprietary Wave-Stopper® gasket design, the company has introduced an innovative sealing component for light- and commercial-vehicle applications, the Victor Reinz® Linear Stopper(TM) sealing technology.

Developed for use in exhaust manifold and turbocharger cylinder-head gaskets, the new generation of sealing technology is available in both single-layer and multi-layer steel designs. Offering increased stiffness and optimal distribution of sealing forces across gasket surfaces, the Linear Stopper feature of the gasket includes a trapezoidal shape that allows for a highly uniform seal. The resulting seal offers improved reliability and durability, as well as reduced oil consumption and bore distortion surrounding gasket bolt holes. In addition, the unique design of the product increases customer design flexibility within gasket installation space.

Due to its air-gap insulating properties, the Linear Stopper technology - when compared with competitor solutions - eliminates heat transfer of up to 100 degrees Celsius between engine block, seal, and cylinder head. Associated with this substantial temperature difference are potential fuel savings, leading to reduced carbon emissions over a vehicle's lifecycle.

"A modern sealing solution, the Linear Stopper technology achieves much more than an exceptional seal," said David Nash, chief engineer for sealing programs in the Dana Power Technologies Group. "It improves design flexibility, reduces heat transfer, and contributes to potential fuel savings. With every product, Dana engineers seek to create innovative and sustainable solutions to meet market demands."
