Linear Encoder has no speed/resolution tradeoff.

Press Release Summary:

Non-contact Linear Electric Encoder provides absolute position output with resolution of 10 nm and accuracy to less than 10 µm. It uses electrically excited patterned scale and read head that responds to electric field flux generated by scale regardless of speed. Encoder is suitable for automation, robotics, machine tools, automotive, office automation, and aerospace applications. Scale is available in standard lengths from 100 to 1000 mm.

New! Revolutionary Absolute Linear Electric Encoder(TM)

Misgav, Israel and Houston, TX -A revolutionary Sine/Cosine Linear Electric Encoder(TM) has been introduced by Netzer Precision Motion Sensors, Ltd. This new innovative technology provides a durable, non-contacting absolute output with virtually no speed/resolution tradeoff. The encoder is comprised of an electrically excited patterned scale and a read head that responds to the electric field flux generated by the scale. The output signals of the encoder are DC Sine and Cosine, typically under 1kHz, easily handled and protected from interference. The technology is suited to virtually any application including: Industrial automation, medical equipment, robotics, machine tools, automotive, office automation, consumer products, and aerospace. A module for converting the output into a quad B is available with an option eliminating the need for homing at start-up. The scale is available in standard lengths from 100 mm to 1000 mm.

Features of this revolutionary linear electric encoder include: High resolution (to 10 nm), accuracy (to less than 10 µm), very low power consumption (as low as 100 microwatts), immunity to RFI/EMI, wide operating temperature range very low profile (6 mm), and a superior price/ performance ratio. Additionally, because the interaction between the scale and read head is averaged over the whole area of the read head (10 mm x 40 mm or 25 mm x 60 mm depending on model there is a high tolerance to gap variations resulting in easy installation.

Unlike optical encoders, the Linear Electric Encoder has virtually no speed/resolution trade-offs (to 10m/sec), it is less sensitive to mechanical mounting inaccuracies, vibration (15g @ 0 to 2000 Hz), temperature (-20°C to +125°C), and humidity (to 100%, condensing). The Linear Electric Encoder is inherently insensitive to magnetic fields and is internally shielded against electrostatic fields. It is much more durable mechanically than optical and especially glass scale encoders.
