Adjustable Linear Bearings

DryLin W guides now with adjustable clearance

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. - November 18, 2008 - igus® now offers its DryLin® W linear guides with a manually adjustable clearance, thanks to a new 'turn-to-fit' hand clamp. DryLin W Adjustable was launched at Pack Expo 2008 and is currently being launched internationally. In addition to an adjustable clearance, the new linear unit is completely lubrication-free and contaminant-resistant.

Customers can decide for themselves whether the standard clearance is acceptable or if the unit needs to be pre-tensioned. The tolerance can then be adjusted over the whole bearing surface. Just insert the Allen key provided into the adjustment screw in the side of the carriage. Adjustment happens in small clicks that can be heard and felt until the bearing fits the shaft correctly.

Matt Mowry, product manager for linear technology at igus North America, comments: "The aim behind this development was to give design engineers more freedom and improve precision."

The DryLin W generation of low-profile linear guides was developed some years ago to promote design flexibility and quick assembly by offering hard-anodized aluminum single- and double-rail configurations. A self-lubricating triboplastic, made from igus' high-performance iglide® J200 material, helps the carriages to glide smoothly over the rails. The linear guides boast very low friction and are extremely wear-proof. Zero maintenance, low weight and high resistance to dirt and humidity are further advantages. Now an additional benefit has been added to this extremely versatile system with the adjustable 'turn-to-fit' mechanism.

DryLin W carriages form the basis for some of igus' ready-to-install linear slide tables, to which the new clearance adjustment can also be added.
