Original Press Release:
Vertical Holding-Brake for Linear Actuators
Fast responding electromechanical brake enables linear actuators to hold vertical position with power off. Compact design develops >200 N gripping force without enlarging actuator profile.
Canton, MA, May 13, 2005...Copley Controls introduces an electrically activated mechanical brake for use with the firm's line of ServoTube linear actuators.
New Servotube brake enables linear actuators to hold vertical position with power off. The brake provides a solution to power-down parking of vertical axes, and controls the actuator during power fail conditions. The brake is a highly compact bolt-on addition to any ServoTube Forcer.
Major benefits: the brake does not expand the actuator's profile-and is IP67 rated.
The brake is adjustment free and has a unidirectional self-jamming design. Motor motion creates the necessary forces for both braking and release. The brake is designed to be reset by the motor itself, and provides braking force in excess of 200N. Once reset, the brake is held off by a compact 24V electromagnet. The motor operates normally until subsequent interruption of 24V magnet power activates the brake again.
Applications
The new brake increases operating flexibility of ServoTube linear actuators used in vertical positioning applications by holding position with power removed.
