Elk Grove Village, IL - alpha gear drives, Inc. has expanded its line of Ternary® programmable actuators to include Profibus and DeviceNet versions of the standard 46 mm frame size, plus a new, more compact 32 mm frame size.

Ternary products are integrated intelligent actuators that provide more control than a pneumatic cylinder, yet cost far less than a custom servo system. A maintenance-free motor with position, velocity, and current control loops and integrated electronics is the heart of this compact solution. alpha has incorporated an extremely precise and quiet ballscrew in the linear actuator, and an alpha LP Value Line gearhead for rotational motion in the rotary actuator.

The 46 mm DeviceNet and Profibus linear actuators offer stroke lengths of 25 to 300 mm, with speeds up to 450 mm per second and forces up to 600 N. The rotary version offers gear ratios from 5:1 to 25:1 and torques up to 6.9 Nm. They offer all the programming and cabling advantages that fieldbus devices are known for.

The new 32 mm frame size Ternary is available with linear stroke lengths of 25 to 300 mm and speeds up to 900mm per second with forces up to 190N. It is offered with standard serial and parallel interfaces.
