Linde to Showcase Technologies and Capabilities at Gasification Technologies Council Conference in Washington, DC

Murray Hill and New Providence, NJ – Linde North America Inc., will be showcasing its broad range of technologies and experience which support gasification technology at the Gasification Technologies Council (GTC) Conference to be held at the Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, DC, on October 26-29, 2014.

Linde North America is a member of The Linde Group, a world-leading gases and engineering company. The GTC promotes a better understanding of the role gasification can play in providing the power, chemical and refining industries with economically competitive and environmentally conscious technology options to produce electricity, fuels and chemicals.

Chris Geraghty, director, Business Development, Clean Energy for Linde North America, Inc., said, "One of the great challenges today is to find competitive ways to meet our energy needs while minimizing the impact on the environment. Linde believes that gasification is one of the key technologies available which will help meet these challenges."

Gasification converts carbon-containing materials, such as coal, heavy hydrocarbons, natural gas, waste and biomass, into electricity and other valuable products, such as chemicals, fuels, substitute natural gas, and fertilizers. The process uses intense pressure, combined with oxygen, to convert carbon-based materials directly into syngas for downstream processing and use.

"Linde has a portfolio of proven technologies and a long history of operating experience that will play an increasingly important role in this exciting quest for clean energy in the U.S. and around the world," Geraghty said.

Conference participants are invited to visit Linde at its booth (#37) to discuss the various Linde technologies and services in support of gasification projects, including large-scale air separation units, syngas processing technology including the Rectisol® process for purification of syngas, feasibility and value integration studies, as well as a full range of engineering, gases supply, and operations services.

Linde currently operates four gasification-based facilities, including one in Singapore operating on heavy residue feed. Linde is in the midst of a $250 million project in La Porte, Texas, that will create the largest natural gas-based gasification plant for petrochemical production in the world. The overall project involves construction of a large, state-of-the art air separation unit, a new gasification train and supporting equipment and facilities.

The air gases (oxygen and nitrogen) produced by the new ASU will supply the gasification assets at the La Porte site. The new gasifier will convert natural gas into syngas and constituent products such as carbon monoxide, hydrogen and carbon dioxide which are used to produce methanol, downstream chemicals and cleaner transportation fuels.

In the 2013 financial year, The Linde Group generated revenue of USD 23.1 bn (EUR 16.655 bn), making it the largest gases and engineering company in the world with approximately 63,500 employees working in more than 100 countries worldwide. The strategy of The Linde Group is geared towards long-term profitable growth and focuses on the expansion of its international business with forward-looking products and services. Linde acts responsibly towards its shareholders, business partners, employees, society and the environment – in every one of its business areas, regions and locations across the globe. The company is committed to technologies and products that unite the goals of customer value and sustainable development.
