Linde to Highlight Low-Temperature Oxyfuel Technologies at the TMS 2012 in Orlando

Murray Hill & New Providence, N.J., U.S. - The highly competitive aluminum industry is constantly looking for economic, environmentally sound ways of melting scrap to produce high quality aluminum. Linde, a leading supplier of industrial gases to the aluminum industry, has just what they are looking for: Low-temperature Oxygen-enhanced combustion processes that increase productivity and reduce emissions.

Linde, a member of The Linde Group, a world-leading gases and engineering company, will be highlighting the effectiveness of its arsenal of technologies and services for the secondary aluminum industry at the TMS 2012 Annual Meeting and Exhibition, in Orlando, Florida, March 11-15. TMS (The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society) is a professional organization that encompasses the entire range of materials and engineering.

Tony Palermo, metallurgy program manager for Linde in North America, said, "Linde has extensive technical experience and know-how in all phases of the aluminum process to create added value for our customers and ensure maximum return on investment."

Visit booth # 120, where Linde will be highlighting oxyfuel solutions that include a wide range of burners and technologies that can increase melting rates by as much as 30 percent, reduce fuel consumption by up to 50 percent, and cut emissions by up to 80 percent. "Our Low-temperature Oxyfuel processes operate at temperatures comparable to air fuel processes and can reduce yield loss to oxidation," Palermo said.

A team of Linde engineers will also be presenting a paper, "Six Years Experience from Low-temperature Oxyfuel in Primary and Re-Melting Aluminum in Cast Houses" at the furnace technical session on Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. The paper will discuss operational results, process optimizations and economy from installations in reverberatory melting furnaces, mixing furnaces and tiltable rotary furnaces. In all cases, the Linde low-temperature processes improved melt rates, saves energy, reduced dross formation and reduced NOx and CO2 emissions. The paper is co-authored by Henrik Gripenberg (Linde), Ken Torvanger (Hydro Aluminum), and Anders Johansson (SAPA Heat Transfer).

The Linde Group is a world-leading gases and engineering company with around 50,000 employees working in more than 100 countries worldwide. In the 2010 financial year, it achieved sales of EUR 12.9 billion (USD 17.9 billion). The strategy of The Linde Group is geared towards long-term profitable growth and focuses on the expansion of its international business with forward-looking products and services.
