Lightweight Flexible Thermal Shield feature PSA backing.

Press Release Summary:

Available in rolls, sheets, and finished die-cut parts, Select-a-Shield® THH-1010 and TFP-3065 respectively feature 0.65 and 1.0 mm thick inorganic fiber insulating core. Profile as well as thin embossed foil facing and flexible insulation layer allow shields to form to surface contours. While TFP-3065 comes with low surface energy PSA backing for plastic surface applications, THH-1010 comes with high-temperature acrylic PSA for metal and painted surfaces.

Interface Performance Materials Expands Select-a-Shield® Thermal Product Family

Lightweight thermal shields available with PSA backing for plastic and metal surface applications

LANCASTER, Pa. – Interface Performance Materials, manufacturer of advanced materials, sealing solutions, thermal and acoustic management systems and specialty products, introduces two new thermal shields in the Select-a-Shield® thermal product family—THH-1010 and TFP-3065—the first two innovations in a series of thermal shields scheduled to be released through 2016. These products are ideal for use in the lawn and garden, power sports, automotive and trucking industries.

Both thermal shielding products feature an inorganic fiber insulating core (0.65 mm thick for TFP-3065 and 1.0 mm thick for THH-1010) and a thin embossed foil facing to create an extremely lightweight, durable shield that is directly applied to protect sensitive elements from a high temperature source. TFP-3065 comes with a low surface energy pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) backing for plastic surface applications, while THH-1010 comes with high-temperature acrylic PSA for metal and painted surfaces. Both THH-1010 and TFP-3065 are also available without a PSA backing for mechanical fastening applications.

“With the addition of a PSA option, our thermal shields offer a cost-effective solution that can be used as a reflecting and insulating shield on almost any metallic, plastic or painted surface. This includes fuel tanks, plastic body panels, acoustic parts, enclosure panels and any surface that needs to be protected from heat sources, such as engine exhaust components,” said Volker Plehn, vice president, global sales and marketing, Interface Performance Materials, Inc. “Both products can be placed within 15 mm of a 560° C heat source.”

The thin profile of THH-1010 and TFP-3065, along with the embossed foil and flexible insulation layer, allows the thermal shields to form easily to surface contours and makes them ideal for applications where space is tight. The low-density fiber core provides added insulation, resulting in a lower “body-side” temperature compared to plain foil tape. In addition, the inorganic core and metallic surface make the shields naturally resistant to fire.

Rigorous testing, including vertical and horizontal applications and thousands of hours of high temperature and thermal cycling, provided no evidence of material degradation or adhesive deterioration. Test results show the thermal shields are resistant to underhood chemicals, power washing, gravel and harsh environments.

THH-1010 and TFP-3065 are available in rolls, sheets and finished die-cut parts to provide a custom-fit shield solution for the area needing protection. To learn more about Select-a-Shield® thermal products visit www.interfacematerials.com/thermal.
