FLORENCE, KY (February 25. 2003) - Balluffs new AREAscan(TM) DS3 Series light grids provide advanced object detection and measurement solutions for a wide range of industrial applications. Balluff AREAscan light grids, available in two different lengths, can detect differences as small as 6 mm in similar objects and detect objects as small as 0.5 mm in length. The efficient Balluff design operates simultaneously in analog and digital modes and eliminates the need for a separate control unit by incorporating all control functions within the emitter and receiver modules.

Balluff light grids increase productivity and help eliminate product waste by:

o Determining the presence of virtually any object, opaque or transparent
o Identifying different product models or size anomalies regardless of product positioning or orientation
o Determining product position or orientation
o Determining product location on conveyors
o Identifying clear parts or containers
o Confirming full, empty, or partially full clear containers

Configuration Flexibility. Extremely versatile, Balluff DS3 AREAscan light grids offer different multibeam configurations that can be set by push button and easy-to-use protected dip switches. Models with different operating distances and control heights are available, capable of resolving the most diverse application requirements.

Functioning modes include scanning with parallel and crossed beams, absolute and relative measurement, and teach-in for specific object detection. Users can easily control and verify the operating status of DS3 light grids by using the three LEDs on the receiving unit and one on the emitting unit. The same LEDs allow the user to evaluate device function and causes of principal failure in the system.
