Whiting Offers Below the Hook Lifters


Whiting Corporation, now offers a series of engineered below the hook lifting devices for the rail transportation industry. In addition to Whiting's capability to engineer and build custom equipment for specific lifting applications, the company's new product line includes locomotive tongs for the gripping of traction motors in addition to wheel and motor combination lifting tongs. For railcars used in freight, passenger and transit applications, Whiting now offers automated wheel tongs in addition to combination wheel and axle tongs for lifting wheels that are lying in a vertical as well as in a horizontal position.

This equipment is designed and functionally tested to meet the requirements of ASME B30.20 to achieve optimum performance and durability. All welding fabrication meets ANSI/AWS D14.1 standards.

The equipment eliminates the use of alternative lifting systems such as slings. Furthermore, the load carrying capacity of the equipment is certified.

This new product line is a further step, on the part of Whiting, to offer the rail industry a integrated line of engineered and manufactured lifting equipment. The company supplies overhead traveling cranes which operate above the plant floor, jacks which lift locomotives or railcars at the level of the track, and below the plant floor hoisting machinery which can raise rail equipment for maintenance work.
