Toyota Unveils 7-Series Electric Walkie Adjustable Straddle Stacker



Irvine, Calif. (July 26, 2006) - Toyota Material Handling, U.S.A., Inc. (TMHU) recently unveiled its new state-of-the-art 7-Series electric walkie straddle stacker lift truck with adjustable baselegs. Available in both 2,000- and 2,500-pound capacity models, this new series of versatile, highly maneuverable lift trucks provides a cost-effective material handling solution for a variety of pedestrian truck applications - from manufacturing environments to retail store operations.

The new models bear a family resemblance to Toyota's 4,500-pound walkie pallet truck and share many of the same internal components. Both trucks boast the industry-proven MOSFET controller and Separately Excited (SepEx®) drive motor technology. The SepEx drive motor and transistor control system offer excellent acceleration and top travel speed loaded or unloaded, as well as smooth speed control. This combination maximizes battery and operator efficiency.

Toyota's world-renowned reliability and durability is achieved through innovative uses of technology and design. The new lift trucks feature a 24-volt electrical system, regenerative braking, interlocking mast channel construction and a spring-loaded control handle that automatically applies the parking brake when the handle is released. It also features Controller Area Network (CAN-bus) communication technology to provide quicker, more reliable control from the operator to the drive motor with fewer components.

These new models offer more power and many advanced features not commonly found in such affordable lift trucks. Lift truck operators will appreciate the sophisticated, multifunction control handle providing ease of use with large dual thumb wheels and lift, lower and horn buttons that can be operated with either hand. These new models also feature a password-protected keyless entry pad with capacity for up to 10 different operator access codes for convenience and security. For comfort, handgrips are angled to fit the hand's natural contour and reduce fatigue. A high-visibility mast with a safety glass mast guard provides the operator with a clear view of the fork tips and a wider view of the work area for increased safety, load handling confidence and efficiency.

A fully programmable drive system enhances operability by offering precise control of the vehicle and reducing the potential for load damage. Electric lift and lower controls are equipped with a pressure-compensated valve for constant lowering under all conditions, enhancing safety and further reducing the risk of product damage.

Toyota's new stackers with adjustable baselegs deliver precision and flexibility at a cost-effective price point. Customers can set the adjustable baselegs to meet their exact specifications, with the ability to use the same lift truck for multiple aisle widths. Such versatility means that customers may reconfigure their operations and change aisle widths without necessitating major changes to their lift truck fleets.

In order to streamline maintenance and minimize downtime, the design incorporates several ease-of-service features. For example, a one-piece, lift-off service access cover provides convenient access to all major components for inspection and maintenance. With the MOSFET control system, routine service requirements are reduced and battery life is extended because no contactors are used to control the SepEx drive motor. For added convenience, a programmable service indicator notifies operators of planned maintenance and service needs through the on-board display. And maintenance personnel may easily access self-diagnostics through the digital display without the use of an external hand-held analyzer to quickly identify service needs.
