Li+ Battery Charger Has GSM Test Mode in a 6mm² TDFN

Li+ battery charger integrates 2.3A GSM RF test mode into 3mm x 2mm TDFN.

The MAX8922L 30V battery charger offers a GSM test mode to facilitate production-line testing and calibration of cell phones with Micro-USB connectors.

SUNNYVALE, CA - Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX8922L, a 30V, single-input lithium-ion (Li+) charger with a 2.3A GSM test mode. The inclusion of a GSM test mode facilitates production-line calibration and testing of devices with a Micro-USB connector. Using this charger, designers can quickly calibrate their GSM phones without having to install a battery. The MAX8922L is well suited for GSM, EDGE, UMTS, and CDMA cell phones.

The MAX8922L's input is overvoltage protected to 30V, eliminating the need for an external overvoltage-protection IC. The device includes a 4.94V LDO output to safely power the low-voltage VBUS input. The fast-charge current and top-off current thresholds can be configured using an external resistor for design flexibility. The MAX8922L also allows the fast-charge current and GSM test mode to be programmed through a single-wire interface. The charger status and valid input power are indicated by two open-drain outputs.

The MAX8922L is packaged in a 3mm x 2mm, 10-pin TDFN package. Prices start at $1.60 (1000-up, FOB USA).
