Level Transmitter employs SMT electronics.

Press Release Summary:

Smart 2 Model L4620 provides 4-20 mA analog signal as well as digital FSK communications signal on same 2-wire signal loop. Based on RF impedance level sensing technology, transmitter provides level control of most non-coating water- or organic-based liquids and light bulk solids. One-piece unit is comprised of electronics and inert sensing probe. Configuration and calibration can be performed with HART® handheld configurer or in control room with DCS or PC-based system.

Original Press Release:

Princo's New Smart 2(TM) Two-Wire HART® RF Impedence Level Transmitter Provides High Sensitivity and Stability, Saves Time and Costs of Installation and Setup

New transmitter is available with Princo's unique 10-year warranty, the longest in the industry.

SOUTHAMPTON, PA -- Princo Instruments, Inc., developers of the Smart 1(TM) Level Transmitter -- the industry's first smart level transmitter based on RF impedance technology -- has just released its Smart 2 RF Impedance Two-Wire Level Transmitter. Designated Model L4620, as a HART device the transmitter can be used as a powerful stand-alone device, can be used in conjunction with hand-held computers or configurers, and can be used with DCS and computer-based process control systems. It is ideal for most non-coating water- or organic-based liquid applications and light bulk solids. The Smart 2 Level Transmitter can help users make their processes and plants more competitive through reductions in costs and through tighter control of raw materials and finished goods. SMART 2 provides exceptional reliability, and in keeping with Princo's level control instrumentation legacy, it is warranted for 10 years.

SMART 2 provides a standard 4-20mA analog signal as well as a digital FSK communications signal on the same two-wire signal loop. Digital communications permits set-up calibration, configuration, and programming, as well as diagnostics and interrogation remote from the site of level measurement.

SMART 2 is based on proven RF impedance level sensing technology. This high-accuracy, digital transmitter provides tight level control and simple, fast installation. A one-piece unit comprised of electronics and an inert, no-moving-part sensing probe, is mounted on the tank or vessel. Calibration can be accomplished easily at the measuring site using the pushbutton controls. Configuration and calibration can also be performed with a HART® handheld configurer anywhere along the signal loop or in the control room with a DCS or PC-based system. The user can calibrate SMART 2 with material in the vessel using two known points or the empty/full levels. SMART 2 can also be calibrated off the tank using the dielectric constant of the material to be measured, and calibration can be downloaded and programmed using data from an identical
vessel. SMART 2 can be configured to output level and volume data in engineering units; it has built in 20-point linearization for the measurement of level and volume in any shape vessel.

SMART 2 employs SMT (surface mount technology) electronics for enhanced reliability and packaging compactness. Units are available with a wide range of Princo's Series L100 sensing probes which offer a variety of types and construction, including flexible cable types, rigid sensors sheathed in heavy or light duty Teflon(TM) or Kynar(TM), NPT hub or flanged mounted.
