New Motorized Precision Length Measuring Machine Offers Joystick Control For Calibration And Precision Part Applications
PROVIDENCE, RI -- A new precision length measuring machine from Mahr Federal offers a combination of high accuracy, motorized drive with joystick control, and advanced software to provide semi-automatic operation for a range of gage calibration and precision part measurement applications. The Precimar PLM 600 comes complete with a free-standing mounting cabinet and dedicated PC.
The PLM 600 is designed to reduce the time and cost of calibration and inspection of plug, ring, thread, and snap gages, indicators, and micrometers, as well as a range of precision parts. Based on Mahr's well-known 828 Series of length measuring machines, the PLM 600 provides measurement uncertainty as low as 6 micro-inches (0.15 microns). This high degree of accuracy allows users to minimize production costs by maximizing the tolerance range available for their manufacturing processes. The motorized measuring carriage and object table - with joystick control - further enhances throughput and ease of operation.
Software for the PLM 600 includes Mahr's basic 828 WIN and PLM-MONITOR. Optionally available is the QMSOFT system, a modular package for measuring, storing and documenting standard test instruments such as gages, plug gages, dial indicators and snap gages. QMSOFT gage calibration covers the actual measurement and testing, as well as comparison of results with standardized nominal values. In addition, all applicable measurement standards are included with QMSOFT, including ANSI, British, DIN, and Japanese Standards.
The large measurement table surface (12" x 6") of the PLM 600 combines with nearly four inches of vertical capacity to provide a high degree of measurement and positioning flexibility. An optional Z-directional motor is also available. The measuring carriage runs on roller bearings and the left measuring support can be extended to increase the measuring range.
The PLM 600 includes a rigid machine base made from spheroidal graphite cast iron and set on three adjustable leveling feet. A Heidenhain glass scale is positioned in the measuring axis (according to the Abbe Principle) and is scanned by a non-contact opto-electric reader head for greater accuracy.
