Leica Geosystems Upgrades Total Stations with PinPoint, Extended-Range, Narrow-Beam Electronic Distance Measuring Technology

(Norcross, Ga., 25 May 2006) Leica Geosystems today announced that extended-range, high-precision, PinPoint electronic distance measuring (EDM) technology is now available in its TPS400, TPS700 and TPS800 total stations.

The PinPoint reflectorless EDM was introduced last year with the highly successful System 1200 series. Its extremely narrow, visible laser beam permits surveyors to measure distances to objects, such as curved surfaces, corners and inaccessible points, with unprecedented accuracy, even under harsh conditions like rain or snow.

The PinPoint technology is available in two different versions - R100 with a range of up to 200m and R300 with a range to over 500m.

"With PinPoint EDM, inaccessible points become a thing of the past," said Steve Crowfoot, vice president of product and segment marketing for Leica Geosystems. "You can now measure with a high degree of accuracy to any surface without reflectors at a distance of half a kilometer."

In addition, the new PinPoint EDM as well as the upgraded TPS400, TPS700 and TPS800 products now have Direct.dxt functionality, permitting data to be directly exported in dxt format into AutoCAD® on a PC.
