LEDs offer luminous intensity to 4,000 mcd.

Press Release Summary:

Built on ultra-bright AllnGaP and InGaN technologies, TLCx52xx series high-intensity, 30° LED devices are clear, non-diffused, 5 mm LEDs with untinted plastic case. Constructed with lens and viewing angle optimized to provide greatest light output and visibility, products offer luminous intensity as great as 4,000 mcd in red and yellow and 2,000 and 700 mcd in true green and blue, respectively. All 4 LEDs feature ±15° angle of half intensity.

Original Press Release:

Vishay's New High-Intensity 30° LED Series Offers Luminous Intensity up to 4000 mcd for Applications Requiring Extraordinarily Bright Output and Visibility

MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA - May 22, 2003 - Four new high-intensity 30° LED devices designed for high-end applications requiring supreme luminous intensity were launched today by Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH). Built on the ultra-bright AllnGaP and InGaN technologies, devices in the new Vishay Semiconductors TLCx52xx series are clear, non-diffused, 5-mm LEDs featuring an untinted plastic case and a lens and viewing angle optimized to provide the greatest light output and visibility.

With luminous intensity as great as 4000 mcd in a selection of red (616), yellow (590 nm), true green (525 nm), and blue (470 nm), these devices are an ideal replacement for incandescent lighting in automotive applications including turn signals, front-panel indicators, and central high-mounted stop lights (CHMSL), as well as for outdoor applications including advertising displays and traffic signals and signs.

The TLCR5200 red and TLCY5200 yellow LEDs offer typical luminous intensity of 4000 mcd at a forward current of 50 mA, while the TLCTG5200 true green and TLCB5200 blue LEDs provide luminous intensity of 2000 mcd and 700 mcd, respectively, at a forward current of 30 mA. All four LEDs feature a ±15° angle of half intensity. Each LED is luminous intensity and color categorized for each packing unit, and a luminous intensity ratio of 2.0 or less per packing unit ensures even lighting.

The TLCR5200 and TLCY5200 are rated for a 125° junction temperature, and the TLCTG5200 and TLCB5200 are rated for a junction temperature of 100°C. TLCx52xx devices are specified for an operating temperature range of -40°C to +100°C. These LEDs' ESD-withstand voltage is 2 kV according to MIL STD 883 D, Method 3015.7 for AllnGaP devices and 1 kV for InGaN devices. Automatic assembly is simplified with CECC compatibility for soldering methods.

Available in different taping forms, samples and production quantities of the new TLCx52xx devices are available now, with lead times of four to eight weeks for larger orders. Pricing for U.S. delivery in 100,000-piece quantities starts at $11.50 per 100 pieces for the TLCR5200 and TLCY5200 and at $48.50 per 100 pieces for the TLCTG5200 and TLCB5200.
