LEDline® Used to Improve Safety on The Chesapeake Bay Bridge!
Press Release 28th July 2022
The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) are installing linear LEDline® on the approached to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge as part of their “Automated Lane Closure System” to improve employee safety and help bridge capacity.
Previously MDTA employees had to physically lay our and then after the rush hour collect directional cones to create the crossover lanes to allow traffic to use the other side of the bridge during rush hours. Such work was dangerous and lengthy (each deployment taking about an hour), as employees deployed and later collected the cones with traffic speeding inches from them.
With a flick of a switch, LEDline® in-pavement safety guidance, creates these crossover guidance lanes remotely so employees are no longer required to be in traffic. In addition, instead of taking an hour to deploy and then later collect the cones, crossover lanes are created at will saving much time. Since the deployments and collecting the cones slowed traffic, bridge capacity is also improved with the LEDline®.
