Molex Showcases Patent-Pending LED Socket for Solid State Lighting

Technology on Display at LIGHTFAIR International

LISLE, Ill. - May 21, 2008 - With thermal management for compact electronic devices in mind, Molex Incorporated (NASDAQ: MOLX and MOLXA) showcases its patent-pending LED socket technology at LIGHTFAIR International, Las Vegas, May 28-30. Molex LED socket technology reduces component count, permitting automated high-speed pick-and-placement of LEDs and resistors to greatly reduce cycle time and overall cost. Designed to support emerging solid state lighting (SSL) technologies, the new LED socket will be used to power Seoul Semiconductor's Acriche AC LED. An LED bulb using Seoul Semiconductor's Acriche AC LED and Molex's MID technology will be on display in the Seoul Semiconductor booth, number 233.

"Heat management in smaller, lighter and more compact electronic devices is an ever-increasing challenge," said Kevin O'Connor, new product development manager, Molex Incorporated. "Molex's LED socket allows OEMs to combine the functionality of thermal management with an electrical connection in an optimized and easy-to-assemble, single-piece component."

Additional features include:
Automated pick-and-place components for high-volume, low-cost assembly;
Ability to connect with standard Edison-base, GU 24-base, or custom interface configurations;
Heat sink and electrical connections;
Compatibility with reflow solder for manufacturability; and
No driver, transformer, or inductor; it runs directly from 110 Volts with Acriche.

"Seoul Semiconductor is continuously searching for the most innovative technologies to propel our products forward," said Steve Markey, regional sales manager, Seoul Semiconductor. "By using Molex's LED socket, featuring a single-piece component design, our customers can easily incorporate our High-Brightness Power LED into their lighting fixture designs more cost effectively."
