Sharp Large Screen Industrial LCDs Offer up to 50K Hours of Operation with LED Backlighting Technology

Product features and integration support enable effective vertical-industry solutions

CAMAS, Wash. - Wed. Dec 3, 2008 - Today, Sharp Microelectronics of the Americas (SMA) announced the availability of two large screen industrial LCD modules. Both displays - one 10.4-inch model and one 15.0-inch model - feature LED backlighting rated up to 50,000 hours of operation in all temperature ranges. The displays are ideal for a number of industrial and vertical applications, with added benefit for the medical industry.

LED backlights deliver approximately two-thirds more LCD operating hours than standard CCFT models when used in cold environments. Longer backlight life translates to increased up time and fewer service calls, thus extending customers' LCD investment. LED backlights also require less energy to operate, enabling new design advancements and lighter environmental impact. The 10.4-inch panel provides optimal performance in temperatures as low as -30°C. This is one of several features Sharp incorporates into its Strong 2-rated LCDs in order to meet the demands of realistic industrial environments.

For medical applications, LEDs reduce radio frequency noise - literally vital when patient monitors require data channels free of radio frequency (RF) interference. Other industrial applications include transportation, factory automation, test and measurement, gaming, and ATMs. Sharp's dedicated sales and field applications engineering team supports OEM and Integration Partners throughout the design cycle. This helps ensure that these modules' unique features are leveraged to meet the specific demands of most any industry solution challenge.
