Lear Deploys Mentor's Capital Solution to Address Increased Automotive Design Complexity and Reduce Development Times

WILSONVILLE, Ore. - Mentor Graphics Corporation (NASDAQ: MENT) today announced that Lear Corporation has deployed Capital® software within its electrical systems design facility, known as Lear Virtual Proving Grounds (LVPG).  LVPG is a powerful, proprietary software suite developed by Lear to optimize and verify electrical systems and wire harness designs for Lear's automotive OEM customers.  LVPG helps achieve market differentiation by providing fast, robust responses to OEM requirements within a fully digital environment.

LVPG is a powerful, proprietary software suite developed by Lear to optimize and verify electrical systems and wire harness designs for Lear's automotive OEM customers.

LVPG is comprised of two layers delivering electrical and mechanical design respectively.  Capital tools provide the basic building blocks of the electrical layer.  Within the electrical layer, Lear has deployed some of Mentor's most advanced Capital tools including those covering connectivity capture, platform level wiring synthesis, design optimization verification, and electrical simulation.  Data is continually exchanged with the mechanical layer, eliminating synchronization errors.

Bill Presley, electrical engineering vice president at Lear Corporation, said "Automotive engineering is rapidly moving towards full virtual prototyping; increased design complexity and reduced development times make this inevitable.  As we conceived LVPG, it became clear that Capital offered a choice for electrical design that could meet our needs.  Not only does the Capital suite deliver flow coverage and automation, its data-centric philosophy and integration capabilities suit Lear's virtual design philosophy of delivering robust designs rapidly to our OEM customers.  It is a further bonus that we can flow Capital harness design data directly into our worldwide production systems, delivering a seamless design-to-manufacture process."

Martin O'Brien, general manager, Mentor Automotive, added "LVPG is one of the most sophisticated deployments of Capital products I have seen.  It is an excellent example of a customer embedding powerful commercial software tools into a proprietary environment to deliver a great service to the market.  I look forward to working further with Lear as LVPG continues to evolve."
