Lead-Free Fuses withstand high temperatures.

Press Release Summary:

Series 466 SlimLine(TM) Very Fast Acting Fuses have totally lead-free fusing element and feature SMD terminations made of copper/nickel/tin. They withstand 260°C required by lead-free wave and reflow soldering. Units can cut off flow to circuit in as little as .02 sec at 300% of rated current. Fuses are available in current ratings up to 7 A and from 24 to 125 V, and can be used in ac or dc circuits. They are packaged in standard 1206 outline size.

Original Press Release:

New Littelfuse Lead-Free 466 Series SMD Fuse Withstands Higher Temps and Provides Superior Inrush Withstand Characteristics

DES PLAINES, Illinois, September 13, 2002 - As the first in a series of planned lead-free product redesigns, Littelfuse, Inc. (NASDAQ/NMS:LFUS) announces the availability of the lead-free 466 Series of its SlimLine(TM) Very Fast Acting Fuse family. The new overcurrent protection device contains a fusing element
composition that is totally lead free. In addition, the fuse's SMD terminations have been reformulated as 100% Copper/Nickel/Tin to reduce the use of lead. Both changes allow end-product manufacturers to comply with emerging world-wide lead free initiatives such as Europe's Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and the Japanese Electronics Industry Development Association lead-free product roadmap. Because of its advanced design, the fuse will withstand the higher 260°C required by lead-free wave and reflow soldering.

Created for applications requiring extremely fast opening times to protect sensitive circuitry from momentary high levels of current, the 466 Series can cut off flow to a circuit in as little as .02 seconds at 300% of rated current, and in less time at higher surge current levels. In order to prevent premature opening, the 466 series provides superior inrush withstand characteristics (I²t) over ceramic or glass-based chip fuse
products. The device is available in current ratings up to 7 amps and from 24 to 125 volts, and can be used in either AC or DC circuits. The fuse is packaged in a standard 1206 outline size, but has a low profile [0.58mm(0.023") designed for space sensitive applications where board clearance, heat dissipation and component vertical density restrictions are present.

The 466 series complies with present electronic industry manufacturing standards for lead-free circuit board content including IEC 60068-2-20. For users of previous Littelfuse 1206-sized fuses, mounting pad and electrical performance is identical to the Littelfuse 433 Series fuse. The fusing element protective coating material is resistant to industry standard aqueous and solvent-based cleaning operations. The 466 series is
available in tape-reel packaging. Pricing for all amperage ratings are $0.25 for 10,000 piece quantities. Additional electrical parameters and performance characteristics are available via the datasheet at www.littelfuse.com. Customers can obtain more information or receive samples by contacting a Littelfuse application engineer via phone at (800) 999-9445, or fax (847) 391-0459.
