LCOS Panel delivers SVGA resolution for mobile viewing.

Press Release Summary:

Offering SVGA resolution, ASI1200 series is designed for mobile projection applications. It can be used as drop-in upgrade for ASI1000 series 0.177 in. VGA panel and features 4.5 micron pixels in 800 x 600 pixel array. Utilizing proprietary all-digital technology, panel shares same architecture existing ASI1000 series and can be driven by ASI9100 driver ASIC.

Aurora Systems Announces the Design Completion of Another New LCOS Panel for the Mobile Viewing Market

SAN JOSE, Calif., Dec. 5 -- Aurora Systems Incorporated announced today the design completion of a new SVGA resolution LCOS panel designed for mobile projection applications.

The new panel, designated the ASI1200 series, extends Aurora's range of single panel color field sequential products by providing a high resolution, drop-in upgrade for the current ASI1000 series 0.177" VGA panel. The ASI1200 series product is based on a 4.5 micron pixel in an 800 x 600 pixel array to create a silicon backplane with exactly the same die size, optical center and array size as the ASI1000 series.

"Aurora believes that the market for mobile projection will start out with VGA resolution, but will quickly migrate to higher resolutions. By designing the ASI1200 series panel with exactly the same physical parameters as the VGA device, Aurora offers our customers an easy and economic upgrade path to higher resolution and so extends the lifetime of their investment in optical systems design," said Jeffrey Saake, CEO and President of Aurora Systems. "Equally, it means that Aurora can bring such new products quickly to market by leveraging off own our developments in low profile packaging technology."

The ASI1200 series continues to utilize Aurora's all-digital technology and core competence in very small pixel design. It shares the same architecture as Aurora's existing 0.177" ASI1000 series product and both panels can be driven by the recently announced ASI9100 driver ASIC.

Mr. Saake went on to say "Aurora's Engineering team has already set their sights on the next silicon backplane design, but this time with a widescreen format device. We will continue to pursue the same philosophy of providing competitive LCOS products with upgrade routes to enable and sustain the expected explosive growth in mobile projection."
