Original Press Release:

LCD Panel Maximizes Active Area for Handheld Displays

Santa Fe Springs, July 1, 2002: Designers of handheld products that need the ultimate in readability from a dot matrix graphic display can now turn to the LM5575 from Densitron. They have taken the popular 64x126 pixel display format and applied it to an LCD panel that measures 93 x 56mm, and is believed to be the largest display area of its type available anywhere. The module has the high contrast FSTN technology to ease readability, and can be used to provide a distinctive user interface on products in a wide range of markets such as PDAs, games, point-of-sale equipment and instrumentation, both portable/handheld and fixed.

The LM5575 is a totally self-contained display module with on-board single-chip display driver (the proven and reliable SED1575), plus onboard RAM and DC/DC converter to provide the necessary voltage supplies to drive the screen. All of these features are implemented using TAB construction, so the module presents an overall thickness of just 2mm. Our tab construction allows a direct plug-in to a ZIF connector, eliminating the more difficult hot bar solder operation. The bigger display area does not mean an increased power demand; Densitron has engineered the module to operate with a typical current demand of only 50 microA.

A key technology involved in producing the display is Densitron's use of ultra-low-resistance indium-tin-oxide (ITO) glass. (ITO is the transparent, yet conductive, material that provides the electrical paths needed to switch the display's 8064 pixels.) Individual pixels in the LM5575 are 0.67mm x 61 mm. Mastering this technology allows Densitron to produce innovative display products such as the LM5575, at extremely competitive prices, while giving designers an important edge in differentiating their products in fast-moving markets.

Prices start at $26.00 for 1,000 pieces. Delivery is from stock to 10 weeks ARO depending on availability.
