Original Press Release:

NEC LCD Technologies Expands Lineup of 15-Inch LCD Modules for Industrial Equipment

TOKYO, Oct. 4 -- NEC LCD Technologies, along with its sales and marketing channels in Europe and the Americas, NEC Electronics Europe and NEC Electronics America, Inc., today introduced two new 15-inch [38 centimeters (cm)-diagonal] amorphous-silicon color thin-film-transistor (TFT) liquid crystal display (LCD) modules with extended graphics array (XGA) resolution for industrial equipment such as factory automation controllers, measuring instruments, automatic teller machine (ATM) terminals, kiosks and point-of-sale (POS) systems. The NL10276BC30-32 is a standard product with brightness of 250 candelas per square meter (cd/m2), while the NL10276BC30-33 has brightness of 350 cd/m2. Both modules conform to the Panel Standardization Working Group (PSWG) standards for 15-inch LCD modules.

The main characteristics of the new models are as follows.
1. Improved viewability
The new products feature wide viewing angles, high contrast ratios and a fast response time.
(1) Wide viewing angle: 160 degrees horizontally (H) and 140 degrees vertically (V), compared to conventional viewing angles of 120 degrees (H) and 100 degrees (V)
(2) High contrast ratio: 600:1, compared to the conventional 400:1
(3) Fast response time: 18 milliseconds (ms), compared to the conventional 25 ms
These features enable information to be reproduced on screen quickly and precisely.
2. Extended operating temperature range
Operating temperature has been extended from 0 to +50 degrees Celsius to -10 to +70 degrees Celsius, thereby enabling use in environments susceptible to high temperatures and various temperature changes.
3. Conformance to the PSWG standard
Both products conform to the PSWG standard for 15-inch LCD display modules and are footprint and interface-compatible with other 15-inch LCD modules from NEC LCD Technologies, namely the NL10276BC30-17, NL10276BC30-18 and NL10276BC30-18C. This compatibility allows device designers to incorporate the modules into multiple platforms, offer a variety of feature sets, and develop upgraded products using high-end LCD modules such as the NL10276BC30-17.

"Demand for LCD modules larger than 12.1 inches in industrial display applications has increased along with the need to display increasing amounts of information on a single display in viewing environments subject to temperature change," said Masaaki Hiroshima, Product Planning Department Manager, NEC LCD Technologies. "Our two new 15-inch LCD modules address these demands with improvements in basic performance such as visibility, reliability, durability and tractability, proving our continued commitment to rapid response to changing customer demands."

NEC LCD Technologies creates products by taking into account the special needs of the industrial market and by leveraging the cutting edge technology and unmatched know-how that it has cultivated over many years. The company will continue to strengthen its product lineup while aiming for new fields and markets.

Both of the new modules will be displayed at FPD International 2007, which is being held at the Pacifico Yokohama, Japan, from October 24 to 26.
