ColchesterCNC Successfully Launches Storm II 220M Lathe at IMTS

CINCINNATI-ColchesterCNC introduced to the North American market, Colchester Lathe's new 3 axes turning center-the Storm II 220M. After an extremely successful European launch last year, the Storm II 220M joins the other ColchesterCNC lathes being offered to the marketplace.

The Storm II 220M was shown for the first time at IMTS 2002 with a complete demonstration utilizing the lathe's powerful 30 HP spindle, 6 driven tools, 10" chuck capacity, 3" plus spindle bore and a C axis with an integral disk brake.

ColchesterCNC also premiered the Storm II 220M's new Duo-stable lathe construction technology. Designed to make heavier lathes more thermally and dynamically stable than traditional cast iron machines, Duo-stable is an advanced engineering construction that makes use of an inert composite encapsulated in a heavy-duty fabrication and reinforced with a network of ribs. The Storm II 220M's Duo-stable construction insulates the cutting area from most problems typically associated with traditional lathes, such as uneven temperature gradients and heat dissipation, thereby allowing thermal equilibrium to be reached three times faster. This feature provides greater thermal stability and increased accuracy during cutting along with deadening the vibration during the metal cutting process.

"Our customers rely heavily upon our machines, so reliability and performance are built into our machines from the design stage. Colchester Lathes and the 600 Group have been utilizing this philosophy for well over 100 years and has afforded us the position of the largest lathe builder in Europe."

The Storm 11 220M includes "lights-out" capability, delivering 24-hour, unmanned operation; a GE Fanuc "B" Series all-digital processing system; and worldwide customer support. The Storm II 220M delivers an unmatched value at $92,700.
