Original Press Release:

Introducing Automatic Pendulum Return for Ergonomic and Efficient Elmendorf Testing.

West Berlin, NJ (1/21/2020) – Thwing-Albert is pleased to introduce the optional Automatic Pendulum Return feature for ProTear Elmendorf Tear Testers. The Elmendorf Tear Test is a common test used to measure the propagation of tear in a variety of industries including paper, paperboard, plastic film, textiles and nonwovens. Our current ProTear Elmendorf Tear Tester is a continuation of the instrument that was originally developed by us nearly 100 years ago.

With the option of Automatic Pendulum Return, the need for the user to “catch” the pendulum on the return swing is eliminated thus enhancing operator safety, increasing testing efficiency and eliminating the potential for repetitive injury when performing test on a large sample set. The test process has been refined and streamlined to limit the number of steps required to perform a test. Once a test is initiated, the pendulum will fall, tear the specimen and is then automatically returned to the starting position. Test data is immediately shown on the instrument’s color display.

The ProTear Touch screen interface has also been updated with an enhanced graphical design. The color touch screen displays test data clearly and allows the operator to review batch data and test settings through an intuitive interface. Laboratory reporting is also streamlined as you can view statistics and export them or opt to connect to our MAP4 Materials Testing software. The software provides real-time graphs of tests and the ability to run more advanced analysis and reports. The addition of the Automatic Pendulum Return and our MAP4 Software provides an unparalleled testing platform for Elmendorf Tear Tests. Customers can also add a precut sample and the system becomes a true “one touch” testing platform.

These upgrades are available now with all new ProTear Elmendorf testers including the updated touchscreen and the ability to add the Automatic Pendulum Return. Each are complementary to the testing needs and efficiency in the quality laboratory.
