Stand-Off Housing Now Available for Dodge Food Safe Bearings

FORT SMITH, ARKANSAS, JULY 14, 2020 - New housing for Dodge Food Safe ball bearings expands upon industry solutions to long-standing challenges.

In 2019, ABB introduced Dodge® Food Safe mounted ball bearings, which are bearings designed to withstand caustic, high-pressure cleaning and sanitation processes. They are the first industrial bearings to achieve the IP69 water protection rating without the use of an end cover, and they are the only bearings to carry a warranty against failure due to water ingress.

The leading cause of bearing failure in washdown environments is grease washout. The Food Safe bearing is equipped with the Hydro Armor sealing system, an industry-leading lubrication protection system. This system, with a stainless-steel flinger and four contact lip seals, prevents water and contamination from entering the bearing. ABB's patented ball retainer, the Maxlife cage, retains a large volume of grease in compartments around the rolling elements to prevent washout during high-pressure cleaning.

In order to protect against corrosion, the Food Safe bearing is designed with a 100% stainless steel insert combined with KleenTec, a revolutionary coating. With no grease fitting, the smooth housing minimizes contamination harbor points and is easy to clean. The bearing is sealed and lubricated for life to minimize maintenance costs.

In addition to the new stand-off housing, Food Safe bearings are available in a variety of housing styles, including pillow block, tapped base, and flanges.
