New Laser Transmitter Improves Alignment to 0.0001 Inch
December, 2002: Newburyport, Massachusetts - Pinpoint Laser Systems has just introduced the Cylindrical Laser Transmitter (CLS-100) for precision machinery and equipment alignment applications. This transmitter is housed in a precision package that can slip in and out of mounting fixtures and provides a visible red laser beam for a digital readout receiver. This new laser can be inserted into a lathe, precision bores, and custom mounting fixtures to measure machinery straightness, flatness, parallelism, and squareness to tolerances as tight as 0.0001 inch over distances of 20 feet. The first installations include shipbuilding alignment, positioning press rollers, centering a lathe head stock and rails, checking machine tool alignment, and calibrating the travel of robot arms.
This new laser transmitter is built in a precision brass housing that is exactly 1 inch in diameter and 6 ½ inches long and can be plated for added wear-resistance, if desired. A red, focused laser reference beam is emitted from a sealed port on one end, and the laser can be placed up to 60 feet away. A reinforced cable and a sturdy quick release connector link the laser to a power supply that contains 4 AA batteries, a power switch, and ready-on indicator. The laser will run for 20 hours on a fresh set of batteries. Pinpoint will soon be adding additional mounting fixtures and devices to expand the capabilities of this laser product.
