New Wave Research Introduces the Tempest iS, an Injection Seeded, Compact Nd:YAG Laser System

System is the Latest Addition to the Tempest(TM) Family of Compact and Versatile Laser Systems

Fremont, Calif., July 11, 2002 - New Wave Research introduces the Tempest iS, an injection seeded version of the company's Tempest family of flashlamp-pumped Nd:YAG laser systems. The Tempest iS is ideal for scientific holography and high-resolution spectroscopy applications, and for pumping Ti:Sapphire lasers and optical parametric oscillators (OPO).

The Tempest iS utilizes a diode laser as a seeder for the Nd:YAG laser, resulting in single longitudinal mode operation. This operational mode leads to a light output with long coherence length, which produces more contrast in holographic images. In addition, seeding the laser system creates a smooth temporal profile and a very narrow linewidth-ideal for applications such as OPO pumping, where the output linewidth is dependent on the linewidth of the pump source.

As with the entire Tempest family, the Tempest iS features exceptional beam pointing and pulse-to-pulse stability as well as operating convenience with single-shot, continuous and TTL trigger control. The Tempest iS is available in four different models with repetition rates of 10 Hz, 20 Hz and 30 Hz, and energy output up to 270 mJ. Options for the Tempest iS include second, third, fourth and fifth harmonic generators. New Wave Research also offers optical attenuators for the Tempest iS that attenuate energy output without affecting beam quality.

The Tempest iS is simple to set up and operate and saves valuable lab space. The system's compact power supply measures just 19" x 8" x 5" and can be positioned up to eight feet away from the laser head. A control panel provides remote operation of all laser functions and can be positioned up to 10 feet away from the power supply. The Tempest iS operates on single-phase 110 or 220 VAC and incorporates an internal, closed-loop cooling system.

Established in 1990, New Wave Research manufactures a range of compact, pulsed Nd: YAG laser systems for semiconductor failure analysis, LCD repair, laser ablation for ICP mass spectroscopy, particle image velocimetry, OEM and many other scientific and industrial applications.
