New Laser Marking System Meets Latest Demands for Circuit Board Marking & Traceability

Huntington Beach, California, USA - Nortek Automation's new SOL850 Laser Marking System meets the industry's latest and toughest demands for PCB marking. "Electronics manufacturers are demanding machine-readable codes that condense more information onto less board space" says Zeena Hussian, Nortek's SOL850 Product Manager; "But at the same time, they need a marking solution to replace adhesive labels because labels cannot withstand new higher process temperatures associated with lead-free soldering, and they also want to eliminate recurring label costs. Laser marking with our new SOL850 is the solution."

Nortek's SOL850 lases a very compact, machine-readable code directly on the circuit board, thus eliminating the recurring consumables cost of labels and ink solutions. Laser marking is a non-contact process that produces the most durable mark of currently available PCB marking technologies.

"It's more than just a marking system," Hussian adds. "The SOL850 also incorporates efficient board handling; it's the only system on the market with a built-in bare board de-stacker and re-stacker, and features an innovative positioning system." Hussian says that these features give the SOL850 the highest throughput for a laser marking system in the industry. One SOL850 has the throughput capacity to supply serialized boards to four or more PCB assembly lines. Simple, automatic changeover allows each line operator to select the board type, place their stack of boards, press 'GO' and return five minutes later to retrieve their marked, verified, and re-stacked boards."

SOL850 features include a maintenance-free long-life sealed laser, automatic conveyor width adjustment; multiple marks per panel or board, mark verification, and simplified operator interface and programming. Marks are easily programmed for automatic serialization, date & batch codes, alphanumeric, graphics, 2D, and barcodes. Nortek's SOL850 features the smallest machine footprint available for de-stacking, marking, and re-stacking circuit boards. The system is SMEMA-compatible for in-line operation. Options include an X-out reader, network interface, productivity data logging, and more.
