Laser suits surface marking and wafer scribing.

Press Release Summary:

AVIA 266-3000 Q-switched, diode-pumped, solid-state, 266 nm laser produces 3W of 266 nm light at 30 kHz for micromachining and glass processing applications. HGX(TM) harmonic generation technology produces fourth harmonic crystal lifetime that is 6 times longer than previous generation lasers. Optimized for manufacturing environments, it features single-shot to 100 kHz operation. Laser is pumped by two field-replaceable, aluminum-free active area (AAA) diode modules.

Coherent Introduces Industry's Highest Power, Longest Lifetime Diode-Pumped Solid-State 266 nm Laser

Santa Clara, Calif., February 3, 2003 - Coherent, Inc. (Santa Clara, CA) (Nasdaq: COHR) introduces the AVIA 266-3000, the industry's highest power, longest lifetime, Q-switched, diode-pumped, all-solid-state, 266 nm laser. The AVIA 266-3000 produces 3W of 266 nm light at 30 kHz making it ideal for a wide range of micromachining and glass processing applications such as surface marking and wafer scribing.

"This new AVIA offers several key benefits for micromachining sensitive materials such as glass, sapphire and microelectronic materials," said Paul Somerville, product line manager for Coherent's Diode-Pumped Laser Systems. "The short, 266 nm wavelength is more strongly absorbed by most materials and produces a much smaller heat-affected zone than lasers at 355 nm. Plus, the industry-leading 3W of power processes materials much faster than lower wattage versions currently on the market. And there is no other comparable laser available today that has the lifetime of the AVIA 266-3000."

The latest addition to Coherent's field-proven AVIA product line, the AVIA 266-3000 has a fourth harmonic crystal lifetime six times longer than previous generation 266 nm lasers-a result of Coherent's proprietary HGX(TM) harmonic generation technology.

Optimized for manufacturing environments, the AVIA 266-3000 features single-shot to 100 kHz operation and a robust industrial package designed for industry-leading laser head lifetime. AVIA is pumped by two of Coherent's field-replaceable, aluminum-free active area (AAA) diode modules, which demonstrate outstanding lifetimes even under the most extreme conditions.
