Compact Rugged High Accuracy Single Point Sensor From LMI Selcom Ideal For Distance And Thickness Measurement And Positioning, Profiling And Material Deformation Applications In Most Industries

DETROIT, Michigan -- A new CCD-based single-point sensor designed for tight and demanding industrial measurement applications requiring high accuracy and desiring a high frequency rate for measuring distance, thickness or material deformation, positioning and profiling is now available from LMI Selcom.

Ideal for applications in most industries, the compact and rugged LMI Selcom Single Point Sensor (SPR-04) uses optical triangulation principles to deliver resolution of better than .001 in. (0.254 mm) at rates up to 1200 measurements per second.

The SPR-04's small size and short measurement range of 2 to 8 in. (50 to 200 mm) allows for tight and exact industrial measurement applications without sacrificing accuracy.

The sensor is equipped with automatic power control of the laser to compensate for differences in the object's color or surface qualities.

Other benefits of the new non-contact SPR-04 single point sensor include its digital design that resists changes in ambient temperature and lighting and its programmable (factory set) range and resolution. The RS-485 and RS-232 interfaces allow easy interface and analog or digital output connection to PCs or PLCs and other automated systems.

The SPR-04 emits a light beam from a laser diode and projects it onto the object to be measured through a system of lenses. Reflection off the object's surface produces diffusely scattered light, and after passing through imaging optics a portion of this light falls onto a position-sensitive Charge Coupled Device (CCD).

"The Laser Single Point Sensor is an efficient, proven non-contact sensor ideal for tasks not attainable with conventional distance measurements," said David Allen, North American Sales Manager-Industrial Sensors Division for LMI Selcom. "The SPR-04 is an economic and practical way for users in a multitude of industries to maintain their high standards of quality and efficiency."

Applications include reference and differential thickness measurement, distance measurement, measurement of building materials, positioning, profile measurement, level measurement, material deforming and numerous others.

SPR-04 Detailed

The LMI SPR-04 Selcom Single Point Sensor has an accuracy lower than 0.2 percent of the position in measurement range and a offset distance from 2.0 in (50 mm) to 2.95 in. (75 mm), depending on the model selected. Measurement frequency is 1.2 kHz.

Sensors operate in temperatures from 32°F to 122°F (0°C to 50°C). Power is provided by a 15-30 VDC power source and a signal processor provides for data averaging and filtering, easy integration of application software and transfer of data to the control system. Dimensions of sensors are 6.0 x 3.0 x 1.65 in. (152 x 76 x 42 mm) and the weight is 1.3 lbs (580 g).

LMI Selcom is part of LMI Technologies, Inc., a world leader in 2D and 3D measurement.
