New Sensor From LMI Technologies Ideal for Precision Measurement of Extremely Reflective Material

DETROIT, Michigan - A patented, high precision Laser Nano Sensor from LMI Technologies (USA), Inc. is now available for small work envelopes, micro-positioning and thickness and roughness measurement.

Using auto focus principles with a resolution as fine as 4 nano-meters, at speeds up to 250kHz, the LMI Laser Nano Sensor (LNS) is ideal for quantifying surface roughness of any highly reflective material such as glass, micro-positioning of polished components such as silicon wafers, lenses, circuitry or any mirror-type finishes and for semiconductor production. Other applications include quality, thickness measurement and precision switching of any surface.

The Laser Nano Sensor consists of a sending/receiving unit and a box that provides power, analog output and all the electronics. It's small sensor size - length =2.4. in. (61mm) x diameter = 0.8 in. (20 mm)-and weight of 3.6 oz. (100 grams) makes it the perfect choice for tight work areas. The sensor can also be used in conjunction with various machines and robots.

Available in four standard models, features of the LMI Technologies' LNS sensor include its measuring range from 0.000018 in. to 0.0059 in. (4.4 to 150 micrometers), its very small spot size ranging from 1 to 6 microns and its operating distances ranging from 0.09 to 1.1 in. (2.3 mm to 26 mm) Depending on the target, accuracy ranges from 0.022 nano meters to 0.75 nano meters.

The sensors operate in temperatures from 32°F to 120°F (0°C to 50°C). For added flexibility, the sensors come with an extra long cable length of 8.25 ft. (2.5 m). Power is provide by a +/-10 VDC power source.

"The Laser Nano Sensor provides a vast array of uses in different environments," Mike Snow, Regional Sales Manager for LMI Technologies (USA), Inc. said. "All this power and precision is encased in a sturdy high-impact sensor that can fit in the palm of a hand."

The sensor's high-speed, high accuracy and one of the fastest frequency response rates in the industry also makes it ideal for a multitude of precision, high-tech applications such as those found out West.

LMI Technologies (USA), Inc. is part of LMI Technologies, Inc., a world leader in 3D Machine Vision. LMI Technologies has over 40 vision and laser sensor models and over 100 issued and pending patents. The company also provides extensive customized OEM services.
