Trumpf Introduces New Diode-Pumped Laser Marking System

VectorMark® compact VMc 4 Represents New Generation In Laser Marking Technology

FARMINGTON, Conn., Monday, May 23, 2002 - TRUMPF Inc., the world leader in industrial laser technology, today introduced the VectorMark® compact VMc 4 Nd:YVO4 (Vanadate), a new solid state, diode-pumped laser marking system, which represents a new generation in laser marking technology. The VectorMark compact VMc 4, a valuable tool used for various industrial and commercial marking tasks, offers a new dimension in reliability, size, and ease of use in laser marking.

As its name implies, the VectorMark compact VMc 4 occupies minimal space. The power supply and cooling system are fully integrated. Its small size, fully self-contained design, and single-phase 115-volt electrical connection give the user flexibility when positioning it on a busy shop floor.

The VectorMark compact VMc 4 is available as an OEM-component for integration in automated production lines and as a standalone workstation with a Class 1 safety enclosure and an integrated fume extractor. A motor-driven Z-axis allows automatic adjustment of the focal distance to accommodate different workpieces; and a motor-driven vertical-lift front door simplifies exchanging the workpiece. Additional axes (rotary axis, X-axis, Y-axis) and a circular rotary table are also available as options. The high beam quality and superior optics of the VectorMark compact VMc 4 allows users to "write with light" to achieve clean, crisp, permanent marks to distinguish their products.

As another successful addition to TRUMPF's time proven VectorMark family of products, the VectorMark compact VMc 4 offers high productivity and rugged durability, especially in demanding multi-shift industrial operations.

The VectorMark compact VMc 4 features a two-tiered Windows® based operating system. The first level allows operators to easily select messages to be marked on the workpiece in any of four languages. Messages are created in a powerful, vector based graphics editor. Images can be imported in a variety of standard graphics formats and then scaled and edited within the VectorMark® software. Variable data such as date codes, sequential numbers, and both standard and two-dimensional bar codes can be generated automatically by the VectorMark software. The second level of the operating system allows a programmer to completely integrate and automate the marking process through an included programmable controller via a high-level programming platform.

The frequency-doubled (SHG) diode pumped solid-state laser marking system, VectorMark compact VMc 4 (wavelength 532 nm) is ideal to mark day/night design plastics, printed circuit boards, gold, and synthetic materials even faster and with higher contrast. In addition, the use of a patented marking process allows many synthetics to be marked without requiring the addition of photosensitive pigments and without affecting the surface finish of the material. The VectorMark compact VMc 4 "soft" marks silicon wafers and components up to six times faster than the conventional green laser marking systems.

The advantages of the Nd:YV04 compared to the traditional Nd:YAG is a higher pulse-to-pulse stability up to high repetition rates, more accurate power and mark depth control, better energy efficiency, and improved beam quality.

TRUMPF is one of the world's largest producers of fabricating machinery and a world market leader in lasers used for industrial production technology. More information is available at: www.us.trumpf.com
