Metrology Resource Company Introduces New Class II Laser Distance Sensors for Non-Contact Measurement of Solid, Semi-Solid and Fluid Surfaces Inside and Outside

ORTONVILLE, Michigan --- A new generation of rugged, versatile and high performance laser distance sensors for non-contact measurement of solid, semi-solid or most fluid surfaces in a wide variety of inside and outdoor environments has been introduced by Metrology Resource Company (MRC) of Ortonville, Michigan.

The new Class II, eye-safe MR L-1 Distance Laser Sensors from MRC is available for short and long distance measurements from 8 in. (0.2 meters) to 660 ft (200 meters). Accuracy varies from +/- 0.06 in. (+/-1.5 mm) to +/- 0.1 in. (+/- 3.0 mm), depending on the sensor. Measurement time is approximately 0.3 seconds. Measurement beam diameter varies from 6 to 60 mm (0.24 to 2.4 in.), depending on the distance measured.

Applications are varied and include vehicle spotting of such items as cranes, cages in mine shafts, automatic guided vehicles; distance measurement to buildings or military targets; profiling railway tunnels, caverns, mine shafts, material sheet or towers; distance of material handling equipment such as conveyors; general level measurement in large tanks or silos; distance measurement in explosion endangered areas or in docking super tankers plus numerous others.

Distance Sensor Described

The highly versatile MRL1 Distance Laser Sensors from MRC comes with an RS232 or RS422 serial port for easy Windows-based communication. A single RS422 line has connections for up to 10 modules.

A standard terminal strip with programmable analog output can be set to correspond to any part of the measuring range. Two switches on the strip can be set up to signal strategic measuring points for closer monitoring and safety. A digital output for error signalization is standard.

Other benefits of the MRL1 Distance Laser Sensors include easy on site installation without the need for calibration and standard configuration software for easy updating of operating parameters.

The sensor is housed in a solid aluminum IP65 metal housing for higher temperature application and applications in dirtier industrial environments. Temperature range varies from + 122°F (+50°C) to -40°F (-40°C). An optional built-in heater is available for lower temperature operations.

Power supply for the unit is DC 24 V or 30 V and power consumption 2.5 A @24V.
