New Slim-Line Portable Is The SUV Of Laptops

City of Industry, CA (April 25, 2003) - Broadax Systems, Inc. today announced a new addition to their popular FieldGo family of rugged, on-the-go portable laptop computers with the availability of their FieldGo S1. This new system is a self-contained, highly reliable streamlined mobile computer with a 2.8GHz Intel processor (others available), up to 2GB SDRAM, and three drive bays for 7,200 or 10,000 RPM hard drives, DVD, DVD-R/RW and CD-R/RW drives, a Floppy drive, and two full-length expansion slots for users' specific application requirements. Off-road, on-road, rough or smooth, sea or land, cold or hot, the FieldGo S1's rugged makeup, shock resistant drive bays and anodized aluminum chassis is the sport utility vehicle (SUV) of computing, whether it be aboard aircraft, all-terrain vehicles or naval vessels, it is just as suitable in the workplace, desktop or coffee shop or wherever four wheels can go.

The FieldGo S1 provides a first in slim line rugged mobile computers, by slicing the weight by 40% while maintaining the application flexibility and robust system power that can survive anywhere. Its thin, light-in-weight portability offers the user the flexibility and the multiplicity of a lunch box portable system in a size and weight that approaches rugged laptop systems. Measuring only 16.6" (W) x 11.1" (H) x 6" (D) this ultra-rugged multi-slot system can be configured with Intel P-III (up to 866 MHz) or P4 (up to 2.8 GHz) processors with up to 2 GB of SDRAM. The server's anodized hardened aluminum alloy chassis accommodates an extended ATX form-factor motherboard able to resist jarring, shocking extremes. Weighing in at only 22 pounds fully assembled, the S1 has a survival drop height of 3 feet.

Designed for the flexibility of long-term use and taking advantage of advancements in technology in the years to come, the FieldGo S1 uses a 3-slot (1 PICMG, 2 full-length PCI/ISA) passive backplane platform with a single board computer (SBC) installed leaving two expansion slots open for add-on cards. The system has shock-mount drive bays that stabilizes individual hard drives (20 to 200 GBytes), a floppy drive and user-selected options of DVD, DVD-R/RW and CD-R/RW.

Each system includes a large flat panel display, detachable keyboard with touch pad, and amplified speakers. Display options include a 14.1" or 15.1" 1024 x 768, up to 400 nit SVGA with 3mm impact resistant screen glass. The FieldGo S1 accommodates a built-in digital conversion board, and as a complementary enhancement to third party user add-on video cards, the system provides up to 64MB of graphic memory to support fast, graphical applications.

Other features include 1 add-on network ready dual port 100 Base Tx or 1000 Base Tx network interface card (NIC), a full range of 250 Watt ATX and DC power supplies for flexible input power, optional NEMA rated water and dust proof keyboard and chassis, two PCI card slots for application flexibility.
