New Datacard® DuraGard® Optigram(TM) Laminates Greatly Increase Security for ID Cards

Technologies provide strong defense against fraud and forgery

New Orleans, LA. - September 15, 2003 - Datacard Group today introduced new highly advanced security laminates that greatly aid in the reduction of fraud for national IDs, driver's licenses and other important credentials.

Government and corporate security professionals viewed the new Datacard® DuraGard® Optigram(TM) security laminates today at the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) Conference & Exhibition.

Optigram laminates contain digitally produced optically variable devices (OVDs) that are virtually impossible to reproduce, making fraud and alteration attempts extremely easy to detect. Origination and production of the complex custom guilloche patterns and other advanced security features require design capabilities that are far beyond those available in other security laminates.

"Optigram laminates give governments and corporations tremendous security advantages over those who may forge or alter their ID cards," said Mike Schnaus, vice president of marketing and corporate development for Datacard Group. "Optigram laminates directly address growing market needs and raise card security to an entirely new level."

Optigram laminates can be applied by several Datacard high-volume or desktop card systems as part of an inline process. Card issuers can combine several security options, depending on their needs.

A custom guilloche OVD combines complex line details and wave patterns. Custom holograms and ultraviolet, infrared or color-shift inks can be added to the guilloche pattern for greater card security and complexity. A second option allows card issuers to embed covert laser-retrievable text into the laminate. Text can be revealed using a standard red laser pen. A third option incorporates Pacific Holographics, Inc. SecureText(TM) 3200 DPI microtext and pixel encryption technology, which adds security features that are only visible under 200X magnification.

The Datacard Optigram laminate offers technically and chemically advanced adhesives and materials that provide strong resistance to moisture and abrasion attack, helping to ensure the security and long life of the card.
