Laird Technologies to Exhibit Solutions for Steel Industry

Radio Remote Controls Focus on Improving Safety and Reliability in Tough Environments

St. Louis, Missouri, USA – Laird Technologies, Inc., a global technology company, will showcase rugged remote control solutions for the steel industry at an event early next month. Laird’s industrial radio remote control products are designed to enhance safety and reliability for some of the most demanding environments.

Laird’s Wireless Automation and Control Solutions (WACS) group will exhibit in booth #728 at AISTech 2013, which will be held at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, May 6-9.

“Steel customers often require highly engineered and customized solutions. AISTech is a great opportunity to showcase our capabilities,” said Don Rottman, Laird Technologies field sales manager. “With over 65 years of experience in designing and manufacturing radio frequency products, we are a trusted source for reliable and rugged solutions.”

Remote control solutions on display at the event will include Laird’s LRC-M1 Operator Control Unit (OCU) for EOT cranes and the Paddle OCU.

The LRC-M1 OCU provides the next level of safety and reliability. This OCU is IP65 protection class rated for outdoor use with push buttons mounted on an impact resistant Lexan EXL® housing for the toughest environments. Featuring Transkey™ RFID configuration, the LRC-M1 can be deployed globally with RF modules to meet regional frequency requirements.

Laird’s Paddle OCU is designed for cranes, locomotives, military and other industrial applications. This rugged control unit features industrial grade mil-spec digital components, epoxy coated aluminum extruded housing with rubber end caps and an operating temperature range from -22°F to 140°F. Operators benefit from the standard Push-to-Operate (PTO) bar while a customized layout with engraved switch labeling and nameplates are available.

The company will also display its Digital Event Recorder, the only one on the market that simultaneously records data from a locomotive and the radio remote control system. The items recorded include all commands from the OCU, the remote control inputs and outputs as well as locomotive only functions. It also features an optional cellular modem interface, which allows the data to be retrieved and viewed from virtually anywhere a phone connection is available.

AISTech 2013, the iron and steel technology conference and exhibition, is the best opportunity to meet individuals who specify, purchase, design and operate a variety of plants and facilities in the iron and steel industry around the world. The technical conference features over 400 individual educational presentations covering a variety of topics while the exhibition brings together international technology companies serving the iron and steel industry.

Through innovation, reliable fulfillment and speed, Laird is a trusted partner and supplier for many of the world’s leading technology companies. With world-class engineering and RF expertise, the Wireless Systems division continues to develop technologies and capabilities that make a wirelessly connected world possible. Laird Technologies’ Wireless Automation and Control Solutions have helped prevent serious injury while increasing efficiency and productivity by allowing the operator to move to a safer, more efficient location.
